HABIT GUIDE
A dopamine detox before you install another app
People searching this are not trying to remove dopamine from the body. They want fewer fast loops — alerts, infinite scroll, short video — and a stretch of time for something else. You can build that day in iPhone Settings.
What the phrase actually means
Dopamine is involved in predicting rewards. There is no protocol that sets it to zero.
In practice it means turning down variable rewards: notifications, feeds, short clips.
A one-day version
The night before, schedule Focus. For the first 30 minutes after waking, keep social apps off the first home screen.
In Screen Time, put a short daily cap on those apps. Twenty or thirty minutes is enough to start.
Pick one block — for example 40 minutes at 2pm — and do one task. After the block, the phone can come back.
A weekend version
Downtime on Saturday and Sunday mornings breaks the wake-and-scroll loop. Leave Phone and Messages in Always Allowed.
If a block breaks, start the next one. The useful skill is restarting, not a perfect streak.
When an app helps
Settings can already limit apps. What they do not do is keep a running balance of protected time, and Ignore Limit sits too close.
Dopamine Bank is an upcoming iPhone app that records those blocks as deposits. Use the steps above today.
